Despite being a proven life-saving intervention in appropriately selected individuals, multiple studies show that defibrillators are rarely implanted in potential candidates. According to previous studies, a key barrier to low utilization is healthcare practitioners' failure to suggest potential individuals. In this study, we question healthcare professionals who have not referred potential defibrillator candidates the reasons for their decision and offer them with the means to refer them if appropriate, via a brief clinical reminder posted in the electronic medical record.
